my only experiences have been with Mexico. i was born there but dont know too much about the history. last summer i visited some family thats lives in Cozumel, the island off of Cancun, and they took me all over the place. i visited Chichen Itza where the mayan pyramids are located. it was truly amazing how big these pyramids are and how intact they still are after so many years.heres a picture from my vacation. they used to allow you to climb them but not anymore.they want to keep them as preserved as possible which is understandable. i would of liked to go on it to take a closer look but i also believe we should try to keep this history alive. before i had just gone to visit family and had not really experienced my culture but after seeing the history in chichen itza, i learned a little more. i believe mexico has a lot of hidden history that i still need to learn. it is a country very culturally diverse in itself. in every place ive been to everyone is different from the way people talk to certain bahaviors make you think youre in a whole new country. i dont know very much about honduras or belize. i do have a coworker that is from guatemala and all i know is that they make great tamales wraped in banana leaves and awsome pupusas.

I am so jealous that you were able to visit Chichen Itza! For my Spanish class last quarter I did a web lesson and I learned about the pyramids. They are so huge and so beautiful. I really enjoyed your picture and I would love to visit some day too. I think it's really cool that you were able to go there and experience a little bit of your culture. I'm Italian and really want to go to Italy so that I can do the same thing. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gina, very jealous that you got to explore Chichen Itza, too bad they no longer let you climb to the top. I bet it's a whole different experience on the top of those pyramids. That picture really shows how huge they are as well! I never thought they were so big. I also agree that Mexico has a lot of hidden history, and there aren't many people who take the time to search for it because they are all too busy laying at the beach!
ReplyDeleteAna,
ReplyDeleteI am native from Mexico, to but I never visit any interesting places in Mexico, unfortuanlly my visits were more to the United States, but I am sure visiting Chichen Itza was a experince that you will never forget in your life, I am planning on taking a tour to this wonderful place, I even have aunts that dont live far away from there, they live in Quintana Roo, they have invited me several times but I havent been able to go, they have talk me a lot of Chichen Itza an cozumel and those wonderful places they talk a lot about beaches were you can go diving they call them Senotes, its like a swimming pool but without bottom. I have to say that I am jelous as well as the other peers said, hope am able to visit and share in a future my own experiences, Kind Regards, Cheers
Thats awesome that you got to go see the pyramids. some of my friends have gone to and they say there so huge.hopefully i get the chance to go some day and see them for myself.Thats also a very nice pic.
ReplyDeleteI also got to visit Chichen Itza, but it was about seven years ago. I was lucky enough to get to climb to the top and the view was incredible! What was amazing was how flat everything seemed from the top--there was just jungle for miles and miles. It was like standing on top of a huge stone island in the middle of a green sea. I'm sorry you weren't able to go to the top, but I agree that preserving the hisroty of the pyramid is more important than attracting tourists.

I wish when I was in Cozumel I visited there. I ended up at a beautiful private beach and went snorkeling. I was younger and was more into the drinking and playing at the beach. Now I wish I would have visited the pyramids.
